Michelin began to focus on new digital design tools in the years 2000, and particularly in the last 15 years major investments have been initiated. This commitment gives a strong impetus to the deployment of simulation systems. And gave Michelin a head start by remaining faithful to its leitmotif: “inventing tomorrow”. It's a corporate culture.
In this vision, its strike force is unparalleled, and gives it the necessary velocity to fertilize in the long term the fields conducive to innovation through simulation.

Technical resources
Michelin offers a unique solution for simulation data, thanks to exclusive resources and proven expertise. Our state-of-the-art testing and simulation capabilities span both the tire and vehicle industries, with tools developed in-house to meet our specific needs. In particular, we have materials characterization machines, FEA simulation tools, several test tracks and a vehicle measurement workshop at our Ladoux site.

For materials :
  • Elastomer characterization machines : stiffnesses and dampings at the full temperature / strain / frequency scope
  • Cable characterization machines
For tires :
  • Numerous drums and flat tracks covering
  • A wide range of tire dimensions, speeds and loads
  • Various ground conditions
  • A dedicated FEA toolchain able to simulate all performances, fed with material characteristics obtained above
